CULTURE AND VIDEO APPLICATIONS

Yohann QUELAND DE SAINT PERN
Born in 1980. Visual artist and director, graduate DNSEP and Master of Assistant Director in Rouen. Teaches video at ESA Réunion with both a practical and theoretical approach. Yohann's methods are deeply motivated by a philosophical attitude and a refusal of the principles of authority governing social organizations. Through performance-videos and more recently drawings, where the ridiculous and absurd prevails, he offers an alternate reality. Displacement, by loitering or surveying for Yohann Quëland is a medium of choice to question the inclusion of the individual in his territory. Using the "Human with the Red Helmet", the "character-tool man" he created in the early 2000s, he produced and filmed performances that blend the listening and the light of the world: greeting walkers at the Garden of Plants in Rouen, sewing a white space or making slow movements amidst the bustle of urban flows ... slow and the futility of his work are a sign of resistance both poetic and political, in that it is "free of a relationship to an end". His work has been presented in particular at Pulsar Caracas, Alejandro Otero-Mao Museum (Venezuela), Xiamen International Contemporary Art Exhibition (China), the Sakshy gallery, Mumbai (India), Centre Pompidou Metz (France), the Regional Fund for Contemporary Art (FRAC) Lorraine (France), as well as Palais de Tokyo during Paris Sleepless in 2012.
